1. How do you describe your artistic style/perspective? How do you define success as an artist? What do you find most rewarding about being an artist? What are some of the most important skills you draw upon to create your work? What are some of the most significant things you've learned through art-making? My artistic style is very spread out. I am still trying to learn and find my own style and what I like to do the most. I kind of just do what feels right that day. The way I success as an artist is that I mostly find my ideas in all the many pictures i have taken over the last many years. I travel a lot and always take lots of pictures. I love suing these pictures in my art. I love working on a project for a long time and seeing the development in the piece and seeing the final piece. it is so relaxing for me to do art, it is almost like it is therapeutic. One of the most important drawing skills, is to look at your reference picture unless you are just drawing without a reference. If you do, it is important to keep looking at it and really seeing the lines, the structure, values and shadows. One thing I have learned is to never give up. You can kind of look at art at the same way as other things in life, like an assignment or something. When you start your piece, you have nothing, for example just a piece of paper. the you start drawing or painting or whatever, and you can see a slowly development. It takes along time but never give up. It is the same in real life. Never give up, everything takes time.
2.Look at your body of work over the semester and choose 2 pieces that show your growth as an artist. Discuss each piece and how you grew in the following areas: application of materials, techniques and skills, artistic vision, use of the principles and elements, creativity, intuition and subject matter. I chose to look at the 2 pieces “look at that view” and “opacity” They are both done with the same media, prismacolors, but you can see a big difference. In the first piece “look at that view”, I didn't really understand the technique of applying the prisma colors. I did it way too lightly and the piece looks unfinished. It was my first time using prismacolors. In the second piece you can see a big difference in how i applied the color. You cannot see the paper and the layer of color is way more thick. It looks more realistic. In between these two pieces, I learned more techniques about how to use prismacolors. For the first piece I feel like I should have chosen something different to draw. Not something easier just something with perspective in another way. I definitely learned a lot about how to choose what to draw. to really look at the options and see which one would be the best for the topic.
3.What medium was your favorite to work with? Explain why and how you were able to master the techniques associated with this medium. It is hard to chose but I really like working with pencil. There’s nothing that stops you. you can do everything in pencil and it is crazy how many different shadows and values you can make with a pencil. It is easy to erase if you mess up. I have been working with this media for the longest time, so i have had a lot of practice. The best techniques is to use a lot of different pencils and then know which one you should use and when. Use different pencils for the different shadows and values so you make it look as realistic as possible.
4. Choose 2 mini lessons that you felt were the most beneficial in your learning for that particular project. Include photos of these and explain thoroughly. Do you feel you needed more instruction for success? Explain or did you feel that the instruction given was enough to ensure success? Explain. DON'T FORGET TO ADD PHOTOS Some really important and beneficial mini lessons from this semester, was definitely the facial features. I thought I knew kind how to draw eyes, lips and the nose, but i didn’t. We watched videos and practiced how do sraw the facial features. If I had not learned this. my self portrait would have turned out way worse than it is. I feel like I could have used more time to practice but I can do that at home if I want to know more about it and be better. It takes a long time just to draw one eye. All through this lesson taught me a lot.
